There is a famous road here in Maui...The Road to Hana. It is a windy twisty road with incredible views and breathtaking sites. We spent an entire day driving to Hana and beyond and it was perhaps one of my favorite days, there is something about the soothing winding roads and changing ocean glimpses that was very meditative for me.
The sites along the route are unbelievable...rainbow bark trees! Seriously, I had no idea Mother Nature had such tricks up her sleeve.
We stopped along the way to enjoy fresh young coconuts (water and meat)...yum!
One of my books Maui Revealed (thanks again Cindy!) mentioned that Maui is the only place in the world where you can experience "waterfall fatigue." I laughed when I read this...but there is truth in this statement. There are waterfalls in such abundance that they almost become commonplace.
Hana is a quiet town, a place I hope to revisit someday. However the trip to Hana is more about the drive than the destination. I was amazed that continuing on the windy trail (sometimes unpaved and frequently 1.5 lanes) past Hana at the drastic change in scenery. From the lush rain forest to the barren desert land. This island has it all.
Gratefully our daughter is as much of a traveler as we are. She loved the trip, enjoyed the scenery and found the roads sleep inducing. Here she is asleep clutching a bag with Raw Organic Hana Macadamia nuts. That's my girl!
Loving the winding trails of life,
Hillary
